Owen loves the pool

Some of you know that Owen and Mommy took some swimming lessons in April. For the most part, Owen hated the time he spent in the pool (sorry Uncle Jeff....but not to worry....he grow to like the pool!). Towards the end of the lessons, Owen started warming up to the idea of being in the pool, but would not leave Mommy's hip. If Mommy tried to do some of the things the teacher was suggesting (different holds, letting Owen float or try to kick, etc.), Owen would get very sad.
It was good that we figured out Owen might not like the water prior to our beach trip. But....when we got to the hotel pool...Owen seemed to enjoy the water! We assume the main reason is because the temperature of the pool in Pensacola was WAY warmer than that of the pool at the Anniston YMCA!! But also, Owen could sit in the pool by the beach and splash around just like he is in his bath (which he loves).
Here is some video of our little 'swimmer'.

10 months!!!

Double digits!!! Owen is TEN months old! WOW!
We were at the beach for his 'ten month birthday'. And yes.....the ball was at the beach for sole purpose of getting a picture made with Owen and his ball! Just kidding. He does love his ball (see previous post!).
This picture is a bit different from the others. It is not on our brown couch....and by accident....the ball is on the wrong side of
Owen. BUT....we are in our hotel room at the beach and ready to go to the pool! AND....it is still his ten month birthday shot....and that's all that matters!

Owen loves his ball

Owen has been 'kicking' his ball for a few weeks now. We finally caught his latest 'talent' on video.

Five Fancy Elephants

Owen loves his Dr. Seuss Circus McGurkus book! It is a fabric book that can be easily picked up by Owen and he can fold, eat and play with all the pages. Each page has something interactive on it. The first page has a shiny red ball that can be touched, the second has a rattle that can be removed from the page and shook, the third has some flaps that can be moved around, the forth has a squeaker in it and the fifth has another flap that can be moved. When we were at the beach last week, Mommy would read it to Owen. On the last 'page' the line in the book is " Five Fancy Elephants, the circus supreme"....and the flap described earlier is over the back end of an elephant. So...what's a mommy to do with that?!?!?! Well....watch the video and see....
(yes....we know it is not the nicest thing to be teaching Owen....but the reaction is PRICELESS!!!!)

Our beach trip!

Last week Daddy had a conference for work at the beach in Pensacola! Owen and Mommy tagged along and then we stayed through the weekend to enjoy some family time.
We had a fantastic five days away at the beach! We ate great food...including Owen....as he tried some new foods (jarred/prepared baby food, watermelon (from Daddy's lunch plate one day), sweet potato fries, etc.).
And...if Owen had to write a personal ad today, it would include the following statement "Enjoys long walks on the beach". Mommy and Owen walked for almost one hour each morning on the beach. Owen was safely 'packed' in a Kelty KIDS backpack (thanks McDade family!). Here is a picture of Daddy 'wearing' Owen on his back on our way to dinner.

Each day, Owen enjoyed playing in the hotel baby pool. The pool was 1 foot deep at its deepest. So, it was perfect (both warm and shallow enough for Owen to sit and play). He enjoyed splashing and laughing, as well as sitting with Mommy and Daddy.
Here are some pictures.

Late on Friday afternoon, we took Owen down to the beach. No one could swim in the ocean due to the surf being too rough (nothing to do with the oil spill). But, we did let Owen 'check out' the sand and we walked down to the water. To be honest....Owen was not a huge fan of the beach. Someday...we are certain we will not be able to get him to leave the beach...but for now we'll stick to the pool! Here are some quick shots we got at the beach. Please excuse the skewed sunglasses on Owen...he was fussing while a nice man was trying to take our family picture!
