I was going through my blackberry camera app the other day and I found a bunch of pictures that I took with my phone. The quality of the pictures is not great, but the subjects and memories are!!!
Avery is a food-aholic. She is a growing girl....all the time! This was Avery about two days after we moved into our temporary housing in Texas. She quickly figured out where all the snacks were kept....the pantry. You can see her empty bowl in her left hand while she tries to open the door with her right.
In November 2012, I got my second dreaded call that one of our kids was hurt at daycare. This time it was Avery. She had fallen and hit her head on the sharp corner of a metal door frame. I got to the school as fast as I could to find her sitting with one of her teachers quietly reading a book. She was happy to see me and called out for "Mama" immediately. The daycare directors had cleaned up the wound and used ice prior to putting a band aid over it. They peeled back the band aid for me to see. I only need a quick glance to know that I needed to get her to the ER. She and I headed that way, and coordinated with Daddy to meet us there. Avery was calm and quiet the whole way. I kept talking to her and reaching back to squeeze her foot so she wouldn't fall asleep. At the ER, she was again calm and patient. We were triaged back to a room and told that she would need stitches. We begged and pleaded for derma-bond. The nurse went to get the doctor that preferred derma-bond and about five minutes later, Avery's wound was sealed! The amazing thing....she never said one thing or cried. We thought that was kind of odd....and wondered if she could feel pain. But we recalled several times when we know she has felt pain. She must have been in shock. Her scar is visible, but at least she can wear bangs to hide it!
Owen had a Thanksgiving parade and lunch at his school. Gram and I were able to go. It was a nice event and good opportunity to spend time with our pilgrim!!
Kids are sleep in the cutest positions!!!
This picture was taken of Avery one day when I had to pick her up from school because she had a fever. She is wearing her scarf that Gram knit.
Avery LOVES sunglasses! You can't leave yours laying around at her level without her wanting to put them on. Sadly...she also has a habit of breaking them. The ones in this picture broke the following day!
I am sure it will be no surprise to most of my blog readers, that I signed Owen up for skating lessons as soon as he was eligible. Here is a picture of him on his first day. He spent almost the entire lesson with his butt on the ice (other than when he was allowed to push the stand around). But....
No more than a few weeks later, he was on his feet the whole lesson!!!
Avery had to stay home from school one day because of a fever. She had a pj day! She was happily watching Dora in the family room while I got some work done in the office. Dora ended, so she came to find me, but first she grabbed Daddy's Montreal Canadiens hat and put it on!
Avery's first pigtails!!!! March 2013
Avery got her first baby stroller and baby doll for her second birthday. She loves them both!
Owen had recurring ear infections and infected adenoids. The fix: SURGERY. It was a tough day on everyone, but Owen was a trooper. He was really excited to be in his hospital gown and to see the doctor. We watched Mickey on my iPad waiting for the relaxing drugs to kick in. Owen was laying next to me, and he kept looking back at me. He would ask if I was getting sleepy and then tell me how tired he was feeling. After the surgery, he was miserable for the longest hour!! When we were finally released from the hospital, all he kept asking for was his bed. He slept for 90 minutes and was as good as new!
Six weeks later, Avery had to have her second set of tubes put in and her adenoids out. She also was very happy to put her hospital gown on and wait for the doctor. She was quiet and cuddly after her surgery, but threw up on the car ride home. She slept for over two hours and was as good as new too! Both kids have been healthy since!!!
Avery loves playing Elmo on the iPad...just like her brother did at that age!
Owen loves to color and trace letters. He can spell and write his own name (and has for awhile), as well as some other simple words (daddy, mommy, cat, dog).
